MTSG Members - The following white paper, "Marine turtles and IUCN Red Listing: a review of the process, the pitfalls, and novel assessment approaches" by Jeffrey Seminoff and Kartik Shanker is now available for review (.PDF file, 844 KB). This white paper presents a thorough and cogent overview of many of the issues and ways to progress the Red List process for marine turtles.

The MTSG Assessment Steering Committee (ASC) invites comment and debate over the next 2 months (until December 15) on the many important issues raised in this white paper. The ASC will then review all comments and prepare a policy position for MTSG consideration on the key issues raised in the white paper.

Members can direct any comments to Milani Chaloupka (m.chaloupka@uq.edu.au), the MTSG's Red List Focal Point, or to the authors directly (Jeffrey.Seminoff@noaa.gov, kshanker@ces.iisc.ernet.in).

If you have any trouble accessing the assessment files, please contact Brian Hutchinson, MTSG Program Officer, at b.hutchinson@conservation.org .
