MEMBER OF THE MONTH – July 2008
Bryan Wallace
Country: USA (have worked in Costa Rica, Mexico, North Carolina)
Occupation: Science Advisor, Sea Turtle Flagship Program, Center for Applied Biodiversity Science, Conservation International
Specialty: Physiological ecology, bycatch, conservation
Best part about my job: High energy, high impact environment, freedom to think creatively, exposure to exciting and diverse people and initiatives.
Biggest challenges I face: Too many ideas, not enough time; egos in the way of doing the right thing.
The most unusual or
exciting thing that's happened to me while working in the field: Going back into the water with a leatherback on a full moon night in my underwear
Why I like being a member
of the MTSG: The fame and glory, obviously; and the diverse experiences, backgrounds, and opinions of the group.
Turtle researcher /
conservationist I most admire:
Doña Esperanza Rodríguez
When I'm not working on
turtles I like to: Hike w/ Jessica and my dogs; talk politics
Ten years from now, I
hope I will be doing:A little jig as leatherbacks and hawksbills in the Eastern Pacific make their big comeback!
