MEMBER OF THE MONTH – October 2008

Pushpa M. Palaniappan

Country: Malaysia
Occupation: Academician, Universiti Malaysia Sabah
Specialty: Various aspects of sea turtle biology.
Best part about my job: Introducing eager young students to the wonders of marine biology.
Biggest challenges I face: Trying to balance teaching commitments and field work.
The most unusual or exciting thing that's happened to me while working in the field: Helicopter survey in Darwin, Australia looking for sea turtle foraging grounds.
Why I like being a member of the MTSG: Being part of a group who are dedicated to helping sea turtles.
Turtle researcher / conservationist I most admire: Professor Grahame Webb – for showing me that there are two sides to every coin, even sea turtle conservation.
When I'm not working on turtles I like to: Enjoy the company of a few close friends.
Ten years from now, I hope I will be doing: Much more of the same, while trying new things too.
