Best part about my job: To work in a diverse environment with issues and species that many feel strongly about.
Biggest challenges I
face: To find common ground with some stakeholders and officials in order to transform indifference into excitement about joint actions in favour of sea turtle conservation.
The most unusual or
exciting thing that's happened to me while working in the field: Seeing the reflection of two large eyes (a jaguar?) staring back at me one night while I was walking through the forest next to a remote stretch of the Tortuguero beach.
Why I like being a member
of the MTSG: To learn from, and share experiences and knowledge with Marine Turtle Specialists from around the world.
Turtle researcher /
conservationist I most admire: Sr. Eduardo Chamorro, the Tortuguero National Park Administrator, who after 30 years of protecting turtles, still quickly puts on his boots and heads out on the beach in the middle of the night when someone reports illegal take.
When I'm not working on turtles I like to: Go places together with my lovely wife Grethel.
Ten years from now, I hope I will be doing: Some slick salsa-moves to celebrate the recovery of depleted sea turtle populations.
