Kemp's Ridley

The Kemp's Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) maintains a localized range within the Gulf of Mexico and eastern United States. It is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to its limited range and substantial reductions in population size in recent years.

The smallest of the marine turtles, the Kemp's Ridley reaches an average size around 30 to 35kg.

The Kemp's Ridley is also known as chelonée de Kemp (French) and tortuga lora (Spanish). (from Pritchard and Mortimer)

Detailed taxonomic information can be found in the MTSG's publication, Research and Management Techniques for the Conservation of Sea Turtles.
