Green turtle

The green turtle (Chelonia mydas) prefers tropical and sub-tropical waters throughout the world. Although this turtle covers a wide range, it is listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and has seen significant reductions in population size in recent years.

The green turtle has an oval, scallop-shaped shell, which can vary in color. C. mydas can reach a size up to 230kg.

The green turtle is also known as tortue verte (French) and tortuga verde (Spanish). (from Pritchard and Mortimer)

Detailed taxonomic information can be found in the MTSG's publication, Research and Management Techniques for the Conservation of Sea Turtles.
